Great ideas! I'm an avid keeper of journals, many different ones for different tasks, but I'm always open to new ideas. I love your concept of "magical seeds." I'll give some of your suggestions a try.

I am the quilty one who started the Art and Fear discussion. The reaction it got took me by surprise! I have The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron (still reading it....) and the artist girlfriend I mentioned in my initial post suggested I read "Art and Fear." Maybe a lot of people are feeling "stuck" because of the weather (just plain depressing outside). I love Cameron's suggesion about keeping a journal, but I'm also with blog reader Cyndi - just read, think and go make art. I hear the new wing at the Chicago Art Institute is fab, so maybe I'll go treat myself on one of these ugly-coming-out-of-winter-blues days! If anyone is interested in joining me, just send me an email.

I totally love that book. I've been following the discussion on the metal clay list, but haven't weighed in on it. "read, think, and go make art" sounds really good to me :-)

I still have kids at home so I need to be where I can still hear what's happening in the house. Where I'm at is OK but I need more space and better light. So moving across the hall to my daughter's room would be much better. Business is so busy right now that we probably won't be switching rooms anytime soon, but I do dream of it. Enjoy your new space!

Elaine, I've been dabbling in precious metal clay for about 2 years, using a torch for firing, I am finding so many things I can't accomplish with that method that I've decided it's time to buy a kiln. I've been doing some research and had decided the Firefly was just about right for my needs when I found your site, and am more assured of my pending decision. I am hoping that you can answer a question for me however, I have found the Firefly listed for PMC, but also for glass work, enamaling, & ceramics, can it (or any kiln) be used for all mediums, or are there gases that absorb into the fire brick that would affect the next medium. I have always wanted to try glass fusing, and I've always loved to do ceramincs, but I don't want to have 3 different kilns. I'm hoping you may have some information on this. Thank you so much, Karen

Hi Elaine,

I too use natural pigments that I bought about 20 years ago! They're originally piments that are used to make make-up but, I bought them to mix with my paint when I was making room screens/dividers. They're great because as they're originally used for make-up preparations, they have a lot of sparkle to them. You can get some great chatoyant colors with them.

I also just bought some transparent dyes from WLW but, they're still in the mail on their way here to France. I'll let you know what I think once they arrive. Gotta try the spices... ;o)
